From the Ground Up: Pants

It can be hard to find the perfect pair of pants for any occasion because let's face it, no matter how hard you look they make pants to a certain cut and if you're a slight bit out of the cut, they won't fit right. There is a solution to this, but I'll get to that towards the end of the post.

Here are three types of trousers I recommend:

  1. Dress If you get dress pants that fit correctly, they can be the comfiest clothes you own. You'll need them for high-end occasions or if you have a job that requires you to dress up.
  2. Jean You can never go wrong with jeans for casual wear. They go with almost anything and they are usually very comfortable.
  3. Corduroy Originally I had "three types of trousers every man will need" as the sub-heading, but I changed it because of this point. Corduroys aren't really necessary, but I think they're a nice touch. I love my Khaki cords in the winter because I'm not just wearing jeans to school 24/7 and they are super warm and comfy.
There are two things you have to remember when purchasing pants:
  1. Fitting Always get pants that are fitted and appropriate for your build. If you have trouble finding pants that fit correctly, there is something you can do. Go to your local thrift store and find pants that aren't to warn. Look specifically for color and style, if it means your standards, take it to your local tailor. He'll size you and hem the pants to your build. They'll look great on you and you'll be supporting a local business. I have a friend who found a pair of Christian Dior dress pants for under $10 and got them tailored. They look awesome and he didn't have to drop a pay check to buy them.
  2. Color / Style Always make sure to buy a variety of colors and styles so that you don't have to wear the same outfit over and over again.
